Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM)

Publicly Available Specification (PAS)

Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM) Solutions

Publicly Available Specification (PAS) has been prepared to address the needs of organisations who seek an assurance that vehicle security barriers will provide the level of impact resistance they require.

PAS 68 is a British Standard that identifies the impact test methods, tolerances, test vehicle type and vehicle performance criteria that need to be met, in order to conform. PAS 68 lays out a classification system for the performance of vehicle security barriers and their supporting foundations when subjected to a single horizontal impact by a test vehicle.

IWA 141 is a similar impact test standard detailing the method and means of measuring the performance outcome for impact-tested vehicle security barriers (VSB). IWA 14 standard draws on elements from other impact test standards, including PAS 68.

PAS 68 & IWA 141 compliant crash rated security products can be specifically developed to counter Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIED) to Critical National Infrastructure, as well as protect other high profile sites and organisations.

In the UK, there are 13 National Infrastructure sectors:

JB Corrie specialise in the supply and installation of HVMS products, with each system designed and customised to meet the project / client requirements:

The Image here is a typical representation of a static bollard deployment to meet rated standards, the bollards positioned as a multiple array will have a gap between them of no  more than 1.2m, dependant on the bollard manufacturer, noting that JB Corrie offer a wide range of supplier solutions, the centres of the bollards may vary.

Static and Removable Rated Bollards used in the rated HVMS sector need to be tested at industry standard locations and attain a level of duty from the test before they can be used and sold in the UK marketplace

Bollards in the JB Corrie product range will be tested at MIRA to BSI PAS68:2007 with a 7.5 tonne truck at a number of speeds to achieve their relative rating. Data to follow

Where the use of PAS68 or PAS69 is used, it will refer to the Public Available Specification (PAS) has been prepared to address the needs of organisations who want assurance that vehicle security barriers will provide the level of impact resistance they are aiming for.

PAS68 identifies impact test methods, tolerances, test vehicle type and vehicle performance criteria that need to be met in order to conform to PAS68. It cites a classification system for the performance of vehicle security barriers and their supporting foundations when subjected to a single horizontal impact.

PAS69 is the conformance of the installation to meet the design ensuring that the product is correctly deployed, fitted and therefore can maintain its duty.

The IWA stands for ‘International Workshop Agreement’ and is overseen by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). IWA 14-1:2013 specifies classification systems for the performance of vehicle security barriers and their supporting foundations when subject to a single horizontal impact.

The ISO stands for International Organization for Standardization. ISO 22343-1:2023 specifies classification systems for the performance of vehicle security barriers and their supporting foundations when subject to a single horizontal impact

The following tables represent the standards our bollards are tested at and the rated duty then can provide.
